A Quaint Little Hill

Mr. Saw and I were actually on a working stint in Kubu Gajah when we visited Hoi Thien. We had traveled daily from Taiping and since it was just a fifteen minute drive to Selama from Kubu Gajah, I had taken the opportunity to visit her whom I had not seen for quite some time. There was a quaint little hill overlooking the river in Pondok Tanjung, the little town between Taiping and Kubu Gajah. I had been to this hill many years back with a friend for the Loy Krathong (or Loi Kratong, Thai ลอยกระทง celebration, a festival normally celebrated annually throughout Thailand in November. During this festival, homage would be paid to Lord Buddha whose little shrine could be found on the hill and a procession would then proceed to the nearby river where candle-lit paper lotuses would be released. As I huffed and puffed up the hill again with Mr. Saw, I looked back to a colorful night in the distant past...
