Heart of Shiraz

Shah said both of us looked like two sore thumbs when we were waiting in the airport for domestic flights. Compared to the International airport, the airport for the domestic flights was crowded and bustled with activities. There were, I presumed, Iranians everywhere and we two Asians there really stood out. Shah had had his jacket tied to his waist and an Iranian asked curiously why he wore his jacket that way. Shah was quick to reply that that was the way we wore it at home, which was completely untrue! Then, another man struck up a conversation with him and invited him to visit his home in Yantz. We would however be visiting Shiraz first. Shiraz, the capital of Fars Province and homes to famous Iranian poets like Hafez and Saadi, is situated in southwestern Iran and the old part of the town boasts some interesting mosques and Vakil Bazaar where you can shop for some Persian carpets and other traditional Persian handicrafts.
