Java Jamboree: A Glimpse of Jakarta

Reaching Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in the wee, wee morning and leaving it hastily to catch forty winks at Hotel Bulevar in Kota, Jakarta some 20 km or more away wasn't really a nice experience. But that couldn't be helped. Our plane from Penang which was scheduled at 2050hrs started an hour late and we reached the airport at a rather odd time. On top of that, it was August and Jakarta which sports a hot and humid equatorial climate like Malaysia was experiencing a dry season. The daily temperature which hovered around 25° to 38°C (77°-100°F) wasn't exactly comforting but thanks goodness, a local guide was already there at the airport waiting for us and at Hotel Bulevar, the room I shared with Thuan Hee was rather clean and comfortable. I remember taking a bath before hitting the sack. Then, daylight came all too quickly and we were up and taking a stroll around our hotel while waiting for our driver and tour-guide to take us for a tour of this historical city at the mouth of the Ciliwung River on Jakarta Bay on the northwestern coast of Java Island ...

Around the hotel we stayed...
