The Sungai Palas BOH Tea Plantation, Cameron Highlands

While on the way back from The Mossy Forest of Cameron Highlands, the brake pad of our car got over heated! So we just stop somewhere along the narrow road (somewhere N4°31.086' E101°24.405') which was in the Sungai Palas Tea Plantation. And I'm also took a few shoot of the Beautiful Tea Plantation.

We were wondering...how they be able to pluck the leafs at the Steep area? We almost roll down while standing on it! :)

There is a Cafe (or restaurant) which is located almost the end of the road that you can enjoy the scenic view with a nice tea on you hand! That is the BOH Tea Centre.
But...too bad, we miss it! Because I forget to put into our itinerary...What a Miss! :( Another reason was because we were going to visit the Time Tunnel Museum along the main road...

I will definitely come back next time!

The Mossy Forest of Cameron Highlands (September 2009) , Pahang

My last post about The Mossy Forest of Mount Brinchang was from my friend Mr Freddy. This time I visited personally. The location is actually the Trail Head to Mount (Gunung) Irau. (N4°31.458' E101°22.911')

There was about 200 meter of walkway along the Mossy Forest...
I will share more photos about the Mossy Forest of Cameron Highlands below...

The road condition to drive up to Mossy Forest. You will pass through the Sungai Palas BOH Tea Plantation.

After the Tea Plantation, the road was narrow and some steep area.
(No need 4WD)

After about 30-45 minutes drive, you will reach a place like the photo below. This is the entrance of the Mossy Forest and it's also the Trail Head to Mount Irau. The parking area was spacious. Along the way, we saw many travel agency on the opposite position...

The entrance of the Mossy Forest

The first staircase to climb up...

Some notice along the way...

The staircase continue to climb...

You will see many moss along the pathway...

The moss...

The pathway continue...

Moss on the tree...

If you are tired, you can have a rest here...

Scenic view along the way...

Different type of moss...

Stand on top of the tree branches...

There were many area like this, it was actually on the tree branches. You can feel it by stand on it and shake, you know you are not stand on the soil...it's actually on the tree branches! :)

The end of the Mossy Forest walkway, the beginning of the Mount Irau Jungle Trail...

We love the area because of the cool air, you will not feel hot even the direct sunlight...we left the Mossy Forest about 1 hour later and continue our journey to the Brinchang Observation Tower (some call Lookout Tower).

Bhutan Field Report: Ura Goempa

Photo © Tewfic El-Sawy-All Rights Reserved

Besides the tsechus festivals in Wangdue and Tamshing, we were privileged in attending a funerary ritual at the Ura monastery. It appears that a prominent judge in the Ura valley region had died, and funerary rites were being held at the ancient monastery and goempa, as we arrived. Having secured the permission from the head monk of the temple, we trooped in the main chamber along with around 30 monks, who started chanting.

We were told that this was the first time that foreign photographers were allowed to photograph inside the goempa (temple) as it hold extremely sacred wall murals. We had given our assurances that we would not photograph them. The ritual was the first of its kind that I've ever witnessed in Bhutan. It involved monks stretching a sacred string from the altar where the holy statutes are kept to the seat of the head monk. This string is designed to facilitate the transmission of the deceased soul to the heavens.

Another interesting event was the monks' debate at the Kharchhu monastery, which overlooks the town of Jakar. Around 300 monks meet in its main courtyard and debate philosophical issues of the Buddhist tradition. The debate is held in Sanskrit language and is intensely heated. This is another event I've never witnessed before. Depending on the quality and diversity of the images I've captured, I'll probably produce a multimedia essay on this particular debate in due course, as I've also recorded some of the audio.

While waiting for a lunch of pizza and spaghetti bolognaise at the Swiss Guest House Restaurant, I was interviewed by the Bhutan National Television.

We are two-thirds through our photo-expedition, and many of us have exceeded 100 gigabyte in images already!
